1: SLIDE PROJECTORS - Modifying and Building

Second hand stereo projectors are hard to find and should you mange to get one, it will be worth looking at how it may be improved, you may even wish to build one from scratch.  This project will describe work carried out on three projectors.  A modern, home built projector based on two Leitz Pradovat P150 doners; A FED Etyud (shown) modified to take modern 24v 150 watt halogen lamps; A Duplex II / Bamag, also modified to take modern 24v 250 watt halogen lamps.  A Hawk I has also been updated using the optics from two scrap Kodak S-AV 2000 projectors.

2: SLIDE BAR - Adapting a shelf runner for stereo sequential use

Your local DIY store will have shelf runners with linear ballraces, that can readily be modified for use as a stereo sequential slide bar.  More to come

3: DIGITAL SLIDE SCANNING and COPYING - 100 x 40 mm; 50 x 50 mm mounts and View-Master reels

Film scanners provide the ultimate results in terms of image quality when large prints are required but the scanning process is slow and exacting.  Many modern flatbed scanners are supplied with transparency adapters.   Carrirers for slides or negatives can be copied or modified for 3D requirements.  On-camera duplicator/copier attachments for both compact and SLR's also provide an opportunity to convert slides to digital.  A  1 - 1 macro lens mounted onto an Digital SLR can be trained onto the slide with an apptoriate backlight or even a slide projector.  All options are explored here.

4: SLIDE STORAGE - For Realist mounts

Slide magazine storage boxes are readily available.  Some that carry 6 x 50 slides cost as little as £10 and can be modified to take 150 Realist format mounts.

5: LIGHTED VIEWERS - LED upgrade

Many of the popular lighted viewers use what might best be described as torch bulbs for illumination.  LED equivalents are now available which last indefinitely and improve battery life by a factor of six.

6:  DIGITAL STEREO VIEWERS

Having purchased a "Phototainer", portable hard disk with LCD display, I decided to make an attachment that would allow me to view stereo pairs taken by my digital camera fitted with a beam-splitter.

I have now made a second viewer using twinned media players and a Loreo viewer.

7:  DIGITAL STEREO CAMERAS

Digital cameras are now available at a reasonable price.  The first project involves twinning two Fuji Finepix F440's without modifying the cameras in any way.  The second project involves twinning two second-hand Sony DSC V1's purchased on eBay.  The third project uses the F 440 with a beam splitter attachment for macro work.

8: 'TARDIS' - DUAL MONITOR STEREO VIEWER

Top And Rear Displays In Stereo - providing an enclosed image perceived to be greater than viewer itself.

Computer monitors are now available at moderate cost and married with a desktop or laptop PC or Laptop provide the means for creating high resolution 3D slideshows.

9:  DIGITAL STEREO PROJECTION

Using two digital projectors to present stereo images.

Digital projectors suitable for the projection of stereo images and movies are now available for less than £600.  Two of these, in conjunction with a suitable computer provide a comfortable and very satisfactory way of entertaining a 3D audience.

10:  DIGITAL STEREO CAMCORDERS

The price of digital camcorders and projector are falling to an affordable level.  This project offers a route that could be taken by those wishing to explore 3D movies.

11:  TAXIPHOTE VIEWER - Making your own slides from digital images

The Joules Richard TAXIPHOTE viewers are amongst the best ever made.  For those fortunate enough to have one, it is worth considering spending a little time adding some of your favourite images to your slide collection.
